Gorey Film Club

Gorey Film Club, established in March 2018, is a 32 SEAT CINEMA, where local film-lovers gather every fortnight to watch critically-acclaimed films from around the world. We're a micro Cinema that pitches high. So in addition to an impressively diverse programme, we also host special discussions and Q&A's to encourage inquiry, an exchange of ideas and a wider appreciation of the cinematic arts.

We are proud to partner accessCINEMA to deliver a new community cinema experience. access>CINEMA’s purpose is to deliver a diverse range of quality cinema, that is not available on commercial cinema screens, to local Irish audiences; to provide advice, expertise and support for cultural film programming and technical presentation; to support and present the work of Irish filmmakers; and to grow, develop and promote opportunities to expand access to and participation with cultural cinema exhibition regionally.

In rural India, 28-year-old Santosh avails of a scheme to inherit her late husband’s job as a police officer. A diligent worker, she is taken under the wing of an older officer while investigating a young woman’s murder. The investigation reveals disturbing truths about class divides, as well as the troubling lengths Santosh’s colleagues will go to to find a culprit.

This feature debut from the British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri is a sharp, probing study of police corruption and deep-rooted social tensions in modern India. Led by an impressively restrained and nuanced central performance from Sahana Goswami, Santosh boldly sets itself apart from other police procedurals through its richly-drawn setting, themes and characters.

This docu-fiction explores the life and relationships of famed Irish artist and architect Eileen Gray. Using a mix of documentary footage and recreation, it focuses in particular on the history of her dream house on the Riviera-E.1027. Initially built for Gray and her lover Jean Badovici in the late 1920s, the house goes through dramatic changes over the years-including when Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier becomes fascinated with Gray’s creation. Obsessed with the building, Le Corbusier takes dramatic steps to claim E.1027 as his own.

Directors Beatrice Minger and Christoph Schaub thoughtfully reflect on Gray’s work and legacy-a life of incredible achievements, but also one where men sought to take credit for many of her accomplishments.
